The city looks like a dream come true as it is lined with various royal architectural monuments. The serene lakes, royal palaces, historical monuments, rich museums and beautiful gardens, are what Udaipur has to offer. There is such wide diversity available here, that a visit to the city is a treat from travel and tourism point of view. Nestled amidst the Aravalli Hills, Udaipur is a perfect destination with a royal romance in the air.

Tourist Attractions

Udaipur is one city, which will leave you enthralled and amazed at its historical treasure. The wealth of tourist attractions it contains is visible from the fact that it has been acclaimed as the Venice of the East. One of the important places to see in Udaipur is City Palace, which is located atop a hill on the banks of Lake Pichola. Truly an architectural marvel, the palace is a conglomeration of courtyards, pavilions, terraces, corridors, rooms and hanging gardens. It has a triple arch entrance known as 'Tripolis', with eight marble porticos.

Other structures worth visiting within the palace are Sheesh Mahal, Suraj Gokhada, Bada Mahal, Bhim Vilas and Mor Chowk. Another fascinating building is Lake Palace, which was inaugurated in 1746. It is solely made of marble and took three years to build. Also known as Jag Niwas, it has now been transformed into a luxury hotel. The Jagdish Temple in Udaipur is a must spot for all those with the religious fervor. The temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh and is dedicated to Lord Jagannath. The three storey structure is adorned with exquisite carvings and friezes.

Pratap Memorial located atop Moti Magri, overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake is built in the memory of Maharana Pratap Singh. Laid down by sprawling lawns, the memorial contains a bronze statue Maharana on his horse. Fateh Sagar Lake, overlooked by Aravalli hills is a retreat from the city life. The Nehru Park also acts as a good picnic spot for the visitors. Another fascinating monument is Saheliyon Ki Bari, which was built by Maharana Sangram Singh, in 18th century. It was constructed as a pleasure garden and summer palace for the maidens.

There are four water pools in the garden which are surrounded by flower beads, lawns, fountains and shady trees. The reservoir in the garden is surrounded by four black cenotaphs in the corner and one white in the center. These are aided with fountains on their roof tops. Lake Pichola is the most beautiful lake in Udaipur and is said to have been built by Maharana Udai Singh. It houses two main islands Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir. It is surrounded by a number of marble palaces, temples, mansions, hills and bathing ghats. It is also flanked by ornamental bridges and arches at various points.

How to Reach
By Air: Udaipur has a domestic airport, situated at a distance of 24 km from the city. It operates direct flights to major Indian cities like Mumbai, Jaipur, Delhi, etc.

By Rail: Udaipur is well connected to the rest of the country via broad gauge railway tracks. There are a number of fast and express trains to and from Udaipur.

By Road: The road network of Udaipur is equally good, facilitating traveling for tourists. Lying on National Highway 8, Udaipur has a good frequency of Rajasthan tourism buses, connecting it to the neighboring states and cities.
