Franklin Templeton Investments, global investment management major,
started their India operations in 1996 as Templeton Asset Management
India Pvt. Limited. It flagged off the mutual fund business with the
launch of Templeton India Growth Fund in September 1996.
Over the years, Franklin Templeton has emerged as one of the largest
and renowned mutual funds in the country. Franklin Templeton has over
Rs.24,198 crore under management as of Aug 2006.
Franklin Templeton Asset Management (India) Private Limited acts as the
asset management company with Templeton holding a majority of 75 per
cent of the equity. The fund management is headed by Mark Mobius, who is
also a director of the AMC and one of the best fund managers in the
world.
The board of directors of the company has Gregory Johnson, president of
Franklin Templeton USA as its chairman. Deepak Satwalekar of HDFC and
Rajan Raheja are the other prominent members.
