The varied terrain of the Indian subcontinent has led
to the creation of a wide variety of habitats. This has resulted in the
growth of a rich wildlife in India, comprising of wild animals, birds,
reptiles, etc. With time, the popularity of watching the wild animals
and birds in their natural habitat grew, but their population declined.
The government of India took a major step in this direction and started
conservation programs, aimed at developing protected areas for wild
animals and birds, along with programs aimed at augmenting their
population through breeding. Indian wildlife has now become a major
attraction for most of the tourists coming to the country.
