Dr. Naresh Trehan, the CEO and managing director of Medanta - the Medicity, is one of the leading cardiologists of the country. He holds the credit for being a personal surgeon to the President of India and has received numerous awards for his contributions in the field of healthcare. However, success didn't come to him overnight. He says that his accomplishments have got more to do with his determination than destiny. Dr. Naresh believes in living his life to the fullest and hence, prizes every life more than anything else. With more than 50,000 cardiac surgeries to his name, this high-spirited doctor strongly believes that to be healthy one must be multidimensional. Early Life
Ever since his childhood, Dr. Naresh had the making of a genius and was forever intrigued by new things. Born to ENT specialist father and gynecologist mother, Dr. Naresh Trehan had a modest upbringing. He attended Modern School (Barakhamba Road), where he was a member of the hockey and cricket teams and president of the aero-modeling club. Being born to doctor parents, Dr. Naresh had come to value the satisfaction that comes with the profession from a very early age. His father was an exemplary figure to him, not just because he was a doctor of big repute, but because of the medical services he rendered to the poor and needy patients for free. Although he enrolled in Hindu College for his higher studies, he simultaneously kept preparing for medical school. From Hindu, he went to King George's Medical College, Lucknow for further studies.

Career
In 1969, he got married to Madhu and soon after moved to the U.S. to join Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and chose neurosurgery and heart surgery as his frontier realms of specialization. He found heart surgery inspiring as it could bring a dying person to life. He is considered as one of India's most successful cardiac surgeons. He has been felicitated with top Indian civil awards like Padam Bhushan and Padamshree by the President of India in recognition of this work in the field of medicine and surgery. He did his MBBS from KG Medical College, Lucknow in 1968. He graduated from King George's Medical College, Lucknow and completed his internship at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. Subsequently, he completed his diploma from the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the United States at New York University Medical Center. After obtaining his degrees, Dr. Trehan privately practiced at N.Y.U. Medical Center. In 1988, he returned to India to set up Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre. He started practicing heart surgery under the guidance of Dr. Frank Spencer at New York University and today is ranked among the top-notch cardiologists in India.
