Sardar Patel Stadium Motera

The Sardar Patel Stadium at Motera, Ahmedabad staged its first Test match in 1983 when India took on the West Indies. The ground was completed in a record nine months so as to be ready in time for the series.

The Motera stadium (formerly knows as Gujarat stadium) has the privilege of playing host to some world-record breaking feats by Indian cricketers. In the very second Test played at the ground, Sunil Gavaskar achieved the distinction of becoming the first man to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket.

The stadium had another brush with the record books when Kapil Dev claimed his 432nd Test wicket to surpass Richard Headley's world record tally of 431 Test wickets.
