Bellview Airlines is a privately owned airlines based in Lagos, Nigeria. It operates scheduled domestic, regional and international charter flights from Lagos. Its main hub is located at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. It holds the distinction of being the first airline in Nigeria to operate Airbus A300-600 aircraft and the first privately owned airline to do so, in Africa. Today, Bellview Airlines and its subsidiary - Bellview Airlines Sierra Leone Ltd - have grown into market leaders in their respective countries - Nigeria and Sierra-Leone. Bellview started as IATA approved travel agency named 'Bellview Travels Limited' in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1989. The travel agency metamorphosed itself and turned into an airline in October 1992, starting with executive chartered operations with a Yakovlev (Yak-40), which is a regional jet transport aircraft. In 1993, Bellview Airlines commenced scheduled passenger services within Nigeria, using a leased DC-9-30 series aircraft.
Bellview Airlines Sierra Leone Ltd, a subsidiary of the airline, was started in Sierra Leone, in 1995. In 2007, the Nigerian Government set a deadline for all airlines operating in the country, to re-capitalize themselves or terminate their operations. The move was to ensure safety and better services to the passengers. Nonetheless, Bellview Airilnes satisfied all the conditions formulated by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, in terms of re-capitalization. Subsequently, the airline registered for operation, once again.
Fleet And Destination
Bellview currently operates with a fleet of one Boeing 737-200 and two wide body Boeing 767-200ER aircrafts. Presently, Bellview operates in 11 destinations in Africa, including Johannesburg (South Africa), Freetown (Sierra Leone), Dakar (Senegal), Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt (Nigeria), Monrovia (Liberia), Conakry (Guinea), Accra (Ghana), Banjul (The Gambia), Libreville (Gabon), Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) and Douala (Cameroon). It flies to London in Europe. In India, Bellview Airlines flies to Mumbai.
