Kamlesh Mehta is one of the most outstanding Indian table tennis players. Kamlesh, born on May 1, 1960, started playing the game at an early stage but a liver ailment stalled his career for a couple of years.
Kamlesh was head and shoulders above his contemporaries and his dominance at the national scene can be gauged from the fact that he played in the final of the National Championships on eleven occasions between 1981 and 1994. He won the title eight times.
Besides dominating the national circuit, Kamlesh spearheaded the Indian challenge in various international tournaments. Till date he holds the record of being the highest ranked Indian player in Asian, Commonwealth and the World rankings.
