Jaspal Rana Profile

Achievements: Won a gold at the 46th World Shooting Championship (Junior Section); twice equaled the world record score of 590 points in Centre Fire Pistol event; Arjuna Award in 1994

Jaspal Rana is one of the most outstanding shooters India has ever produced. Born on June 28, 1976, Jaspal lent a glamorous touch to the sober game of shooting both with his astounding achievements and his good looks.

Rana made his national debut at the age of 12 when he grabbed a silver medal at the 31st National Shooting Championship at Ahmedabad in 1988. Six years later Rana shot into national prominence when, competing in Standard Pistol, he won a gold at the 46th World Shooting Championship (Junior Section) with a world record score at Milan in Italy in 1994.

Since then Rana has won honours galore in domestic and international events, many a times rewriting record books. He twice equaled the world record score of 590 points in Centre Fire Pistol event, first at the National Shooting Championship at Coimbatore in 1995 and then at the National Games held at Bangalore in 1997 where he was also declared the Best Sportsman.

Though Centre Fire Pistol is Rana's pet event, he did well in Air Pistol, Standard Pistol, Free Pistol and Rapid Fire Pistol as well. He was conferred the Arjuna Award in 1994.
