Mohammed Shahid ranks as one of the finest Indian forwards ever. Shahid was born on April 14, 1960, at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

Shahid made his international debut in the Junior World Cup in France in 1979 and immediately made a mark for his excellent dribbling and ball-control skills. After graduating to the seniors team, Mohammad Shahid represented India at the Champions Trophy at Karachi in 1980. Despite Indian team's listless display, Shahid was adjudged the Best Forward of the tournament.

Shahid was a member of the gold medal-winning Indian team at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. He also represented India in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

Shahid was in the team that won silver medal at the 1982 Asian Games in Delhi and Bronze at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul. Shahid's sublime skills at the 1986 Asian Games earned him a place in the Asian All-Star team.

Master dribbler who mesmerized fans with his virtuosity, Shahid was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1980-81 and Padma Shri in 1986.
