Study and Contemplation is also necessary for Siddha Yoga practices. To know more, read on.

Study and Contemplation

Words have a profound influence on a person. They may be positive or negative; they do have an effect, which changes the way one thinks. Thus, the words of the Guru, when paid attention to, bring in significant changes in the overall perception and outlook of the person. Moreover, the teachings of the guru contain the essence of the enlightenment; they want their disciples to achieve. With the help of their words of wisdom, they constantly guide us on the path of spirituality.

Consequently, the doctrine of study and contemplation is necessary as it pushes the person to his own higher Self and uplifts his state. The teachings of the Guru expand the horizon of knowledge and shape the life of the disciple. The study of the text material teaches the student to live in harmony with the highest truths of life and rejoice in the joy of knowing your inner self better. However, in Siddha Yoga there is a constant effort to apply these teachings to deeper levels of understanding and awareness.

Related with the process of study, is the practice of contemplation. It helps to reap the fruit of spirituality more effectively. It helps to break free from the regular thought pattern of day-to-day life and draws attention inwards. It is deemed as one of the best ways to free the mind from its bondations. Contemplation is basically the process of holding something in the awareness until it reveals its true essence. It even serves as a potent tool to find answers to a number of bothering questions.

Contemplation involves a connection with one's inner wisdom to seek the answers and the truth. It is quite different from meditation and thinking, as in meditation we bring the thought process to a stand still in order experience the inner self, whereas in contemplation we use our inner wisdom and deep understanding to unfold the complexities of a particular subject. To understand and practice the process of contemplation in detail, read the steps below.

Contemplation Process
  • Ask for the blessings of the grace to guide you through the process.
  • Frame a question for yourself, to know whatever you want to ask.
  • Jot down all the thoughts, words, and images that come up to your mind.
  • Sit quietly with eyes closed. Take deep breaths, allowing your awareness settle into your heart and rest for a few minutes.
  • If you find out anything more about your question during this time, write it down immediately. Write everything that comes to your mind without hesitation. Even if nothing is suggested, write and see what is revealed.
  • Review everything you've written during the process and try to derive meaning out of it.
After the contemplation process, revelations can occur at any stage during the contemplation process, or later when you are walking, waking up, or in the middle of doing something else. Nevertheless, the process of contemplation always bears fruit.
