Chronic bronchitis, also known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a long-term problem. Chronic bronchitis has adverse effects on the patient. The person tends to suffer from breathing problem and has a tough time exerting himself physically.

Talking about the bronchitis symptoms, inflammation takes place in the bronchi and consequently, secretion of mucus occurs in large quantities and gets expelled as phlegm that is sticky. Other symptoms include fever, difficulty in breathing, pain in chest, cough and loss of appetite.

Smoking is one of the major causes of bronchitis. Excessive smoking tends to cause irritation in the bronchial tubes and reduces the body’s resistance to fight germs breathed in from the atmosphere.
