Here is presented information about appendicitis, its causes and symptoms.

Appendicitis Information

Appendicitis is a condition that results in swelling and infection in the appendix of a person. Located at the lower right area of the abdomen, appendix is a pouch attached to the large intestine. Its internal portion is known as appendiceal lumen. The mucus, which is created by the appendix, moves from the appendiceal lumen to the large intestine. In appendicitis, the lumen becomes obstructed and gets filled with mucus and swells. The main symptom of the problem is a pain in the abdominal area, which moves to the right side. In almost all the cases of appendicitis, the appendix is removed, either through laparotomy or laparoscopy. In the following lines, we have listed all the causes and symptoms of appendicitis.

Causes Of Appendicitis

Appendicitis results from the blockage that occurs on the inside of the appendix, known as appendiceal lumen. The bacterial or viral infections in the digestive tract lead to swelling of lymph nodes, which squeezes the appendix and causes obstruction. This blockage leads to increased pressure, impaired blood flow and inflammation of the appendix. In rare cases, traumatic injury to the abdomen and genetic factors also cause appendicitis. The obstruction, if not treated properly, and on time, would lead to a rupture in the appendix, creating major complications.
