Bank of Ceylon, popularly abbreviated as BOC, is a government-owned, major commercial bank in Sri Lanka. It was established in 1939 with its head office located in iconic cylindrical building in the capital Colombo, the commercial capital of the island. The bank has 308 branches and 200+ extension centers spread across the island. Apart of vast local presence, Bank of Ceylon has 3 overseas offices in London, Male & Chennai; all of them being member banks for SWIFT and having appointed agents in all countries in the world for more convenient banking to its all customers. Since its establishment in 1939, the Bank of Ceylon has been providing customized solutions and services in a number of financial fields and segments to become a trusted name in the banking industry.

In the year 1982, the Bank of Ceylon established the Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka for better reach and reception among the target market. The same time, the BOC Property Development Ltd was established. In the year 1989, the bank joined with the Visa International to introduce first credit cards business to Sri Lanka. Over the years, BOC joined SWIFT at the SWIFT BIC BCEYLKLX along with 15 other financial institutions in Sri Lanka. In 2010, BOC converted its London branch in to a subsidiary of BOC in Sri Lanka. The same year the Bank of Ceylon achieved its highest ever profit before tax at LKR 10.1Bln.
